Just £30 gets you a half day session at the annual Motorcycle Off-Road Experience, or at least it does if you’re one of the lucky 400 who got a place on the sold out four day long event in Wiltshire.
The experience is hosted by the Motorcycle Industry Association in conjunction with Honda, KTM, Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki and is a collaboration that aims to get more people into off-road sport by making it more accessible. For your £30 you get the use of all the equipment, a safety briefing and the use of various motocross, trail and enduro bikes under very experienced instruction from current and ex British and world champions.
MORE is aimed at complete off-road novices, rather than seasoned pros and as such it means many female and younger riders register for places. Whilst we were there we met one lady who had never ridden off-road but had booked herself on a week long Riders for Health charity ride through Gambia later this year so thought she’d better have a go beforehand! We also met a father and son who had never even sat on a bike before; both were thrilled to quickly get the hang of the beginners loop within half an hour of riding. I took a scooter riding friend along for his 50th Birthday, he’d not been on a bike since he was 14 and didn’t know how to change gears with his foot but was soon out on the big track and loved every minute of it.
If you want to be in with a chance for next year check out the MORE Facebook page, give them a like and look out for their announcements next year. If you can’t wait until then why not try an off road day at one of the aforementioned manufacturers approved off-road schools?
